Time and again I am drawn to stripes. I love my striped navy and white blazer from Madewell so much that I plan to wear it straight through to the winter!  Stripes were introduced to the fashion scene by Napoleon…yes, that Napoleon! A navy and white shirt with 21 striped symbolizing each of Napoleon’s victories and became the uniform for all French navy men. It came to be known as the Breton shirt, named after the Breton workers who increased its popularity throughout the later half of the nineteenth century. Coco Chanel saw workers wearing the shirt while on holiday, paired it with her daring wide leg trousers, and a fashion staple was born. We often see stripes in home decor as well. It adds a classic yet bold statement to any room.
