EXTREME MAKEOVER – OUR HOME EDITION
Our home exterior (just like the interior) needed some TLC, and this was the year we were able to make the that happen! We decided to repaint the entire exterior and trim, replace the columns, get rid of the sad excuse for a walkway and landing, and tear out two trees, all of the grass and old plants, and start all over again with a newly graded yard. For the house exterior, we chose Benjamin Moore’s Cliffside Gray and went with Benjamin Moore’s Cottage Red for the door. The walkway was a curving path of loose slate that was unbearable to deal with in the winter when shoveling and snow blowing; it was also far too narrow to accommodate anyone comfortably. We chose to have Madrona Bros. Landscaping handle the task to straighten and widen the path and went with a pattern of neutral and soft color stones. We also had our friends at Tingley Electric relocate the lamp post to a much more ideal location. The stairs and landing were in bad shape, so we replaced those as well. The shrubs and plants on either side of the entryway were over grown and over crowded; we decided to replace them with flowering plants that fit with the aesthetic of our modified cape style home and did not block the windows. We wanted an inviting, simple and chic looking exterior and we are on our way. The pictures here reflect the new look now compared to the look during the paint prep and plant removal process during the spring. What a difference! Once the grass is lovingly watered enough each day to grow in, the transformation will be complete! It feels so good to design our home the way we envision it to be – on the inside and out!
