U feel like sometimes Urban Outfitters gets a bad rap, and in many aspects, it’s probably deserved. They sort of took the independent, unique style that artistic young adults were crafting in different places and started mass producing it so that every fresh idea quickly hit the shelves for millions to wear. You could definitely call Urban Outfitters a “sell-out,” and it wouldn’t be totally unjustified. Lately, though, I feel like U.O. has been honest with itself, and hasn’t tried to keep marketing itself as the place where “hipsters in the know” shop. It’s admitted to itself that it’s more mainstream than that, which is a good thing, because it’s allowed the store to dabble more in the fashion side of things. While the chain maintains its sense of indie music-inspired style and quirky trends, it’s definitely responding more to the runway looks, too. And because of its indie reputation, it can embrace some of the edgier fashion trends, but all at a price point that’s nice and comfy. I happen to love a lot of their fall looks that have just start becoming available, partly because they’re the perfect combination of fashion trend and indie, more unique style – partly because many of these items happened to be on my must-have list for fall anyway, looks like a cargo military jacket. The prices seem better than ever, too.
