Best of Paris Fashion Week

Although I am, of course, partial to New York and New York Fashion Week, no one can deny that Paris is the fashion capital of the world, and its Fashion Week is like the inauguration of trends. Here, fashion’s most iconic, celebrated designers show us their artwork, and in doing so, they give us refreshing new looks to work into our wardrobes. Here are some of my favorite looks from Paris Fashion Week, in pictures from New York Magazine’s The Cut’s slideshows:

Dries van Noten

Lanvin

Balenciaga

Commes des Garcons

Ann Demeulemeester

Maison Martin Margiela

Miu Miu

Gareth Pugh

Viktor & Rolf

Louis Vuitton

Vivienne Westwood

Yves Saint Laurent

Alexander McQueen

Just gorgeous…the beauty of Paris runway fashion is simply breathtaking. So what trends do we see here? Prints, jewel tones, what I like to call 1970’s tones – rusty reds, mustardy yellows, architectural shapes and structuring – asymmetry, pleating, draping, avant garde shapes etc., old Hollywood glam accents like sequins and feathers, mixed textures, capes, faux fur, and this sort of Eastern European county look, with the big full skirts, petticoats, corsets, and bright colors. The entire Alexander McQueen collection sort of transcended trends, and was like Marie Antoinette meets old Hollywood meets the future. Oh, and for Chanel, the entire line is Siberian chic, so check it out at The Cut. And start stocking up on printed dresses, capes, and pieces with unusual accents like feathers or 3-D flowers. Lower cost collaborations like Gaultier for Target and the H&M Garden line are fabulous places to start!
