DIY Fabric Covered Notebooks

Hello world, I am back. I’ve been busy with finals and now summer school has started. I’ve recently been making these cute fabric covered notebooks  with vintage fabric. They can be used even if you’re not in school. They are perfect for writing your daily notes in and make cute homemade gifts. I use mine for important notes, more like a calender book because I love the fabric so much. I got lucky finding this vintage fabric, my mom had it hidden away since the 70’s when she used to sew but now its all mine. This is an easy and inexpensive project to do and it will also add some fashion to your notebooks.

To start this project off you will need any type of notebook you’ll want to cover that has no spiral rings  on them. Its to hard to use those, its not impossible though. You can find cheap notebooks at any art supply store, one dollar store or any store you prefer. Second you will need a handy dandy glue gun, scissors and third any fabric of your choice. I personally like the vintage fabric because it stands out more and well because its vintage!

Before you get your glue involved you will want to do a run through first with your fabric.  You will need about 1/2 a yard of fabric for a regular sized notebook. When you are ready to start  be sure to wrap the fabric all the way around the notebook so that you know you’ve left enough for it  to close comfortably. Once you have your fabric in place  you can start gluing.

In this picture, I have my fabric measured out and its set in place around the notebook. Before I fold over the hem, I have cut a slit in the fabric at the center so that the fabric can cover the notebook entirely. Then I glue the fabric to the notebook starting with the hems and then gluing the entire piece once I fold over the fabric, (if this is too confusing , I’m sorry). This process is very similar to making a book cover out of a paper bag for a textbook except we’re gluing fabric. If you are you are struggling with your fabric, this process is a whole lot easier if you iron your hems down.

Once you are done with all the glueing , you simply repeat on the otherside and you are done.  In these pictures I am showing you the three notebooks I made today. I think they add some color and life to your everyday notebooks that you use. And these colors are perfect for the summer. So instead of buying a $12 fabric covered notebook  you can make your own and get as creative as you want. Off to summer school now…..
